A Mindset Shift: Today, I Decided to Invest in Myself
Today was different. It was the day I decided I was determined enough, smart enough, and had way too many good ideas to ignore the possibility of becoming a millionaire. Seriously, it was a full-on mindset shift that hit me like a lightning bolt. It all started when I was casually scrolling through Pinterest and stumbled upon a post from a blogger who shared how she became successful—and even had a program to teach others to do the same.
I’ve been intrigued by blogging for a while now, but like so many others, I had no idea where to start. And the thought of investing money I really didn’t have? Terrifying. But there it was, staring me in the face: an opportunity to invest in myself, my passions, and this deep-seated desire I have to help people. So, I did it. I took the leap.
After that moment, I looked myself in the mirror and said, “You CAN do this.” Determination settled in, and I knew it was time to get to work. Naturally, I jumped into the shower—my go-to place for brainstorming—and started writing out ideas on the shower door like a madman. Every thought, every spark of inspiration, captured. Then, I grabbed my phone and jotted everything down, locking in those ideas to keep myself accountable. I needed to do this. No more waiting around.
It’s funny how life works. Sometimes, you wake up and realize that the life you’re living isn’t exactly the one you envisioned. Don’t get me wrong—I love my life. But I’ve felt like a passenger instead of the driver. Between being a stay-at-home parent and helping run our new massage therapy and hypnotherapy business, I was still relying on my husband’s income to support us. And that’s been hard, especially since his job as a firefighter hasn’t brought him joy or fulfillment in years.
Watching him feel stuck, unappreciated, and underutilized in a role that doesn’t value his leadership style—a style rooted in respect rather than fear—has been tough on all of us. It’s left us looking for opportunities elsewhere, considering uprooting our family for a better chance at happiness. But it’s complicated. Our two young sons have a life here, friends, and routines they cherish. How do we balance the need for growth and change without sacrificing what we’ve built?
Here’s what I’ve learned: life isn’t just about money or status. It’s about self-love, surrounding ourselves with people who inspire us, and chasing the dreams that set our souls on fire. Without all three pieces of that triangle—self-love, community, and passion—the whole thing falls apart. And let’s be real: our triangle was starting to wobble.
But today, I made a choice. I committed to change. There’s no better moment than the present, and there’s no greater power than the one we bring to the here and now. I realized I needed to embrace growth, and that means accepting mistakes along the way. It means offering myself grace when I stumble and using what I learn to build something even stronger.
I’m ready to transform my life into the one I’ve always dreamed of. A life that gives me time with my family and friends. A life where I can give back to the communities that shaped me. Today, I changed my mindset—and I believe you can, too. Take the leap. Invest in yourself. Because if not now, then when?
